Tithing

Tithing by lcl

Lev 27:28 However, no devoted thing that a man shall devote to Jehovah of all that he has, either of man or animal, or of the field of his possession, shall be sold or redeemed. Every devoted thing is most holy to Jehovah.

Lev 27:29 Nothing devoted, which shall be devoted of men, shall be redeemed, but shall surely be put to death.

Lev 27:30 And all the tithe of the land, of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is Jehovah’s. It is holy to Jehovah.

Lev 27:31 And if a man will at all redeem anything of his tithes, he shall add to it the fifth part of it.

Lev 27:32 And all the tithe of the herd, or of the flock, all that passes under the rod, a tenth shall be holy to Jehovah

Lev 27:33 He shall not search whether it is good or bad, neither shall he change it. And if he changes it at all, then both it and the change of it shall be holy. It shall not be redeemed.

Lev 27:34 These are the commandments which Jehovah commanded Moses for the sons of Israel in Mount Sinai.Unger’s Bible Dictionary explanation of redemption: The thoughts constantly impressed upon the Israelites were, that they were a people belonging to Jehovah. That He had severed them from bondage, and that Canaan, with all it might produce, was the gift of God. Therefore, all Israel owed service to God, and were in spirit at least, to be priests to the Most High. Levi and his descendants were set apart for the service of the sanctuary. All others were to be redeemed through the first born of man and beast. Sons were presented to the Lord on the 40th day after birth and were redeemed (purchased) for 5 shekels. (50 pennyweight English)(Num.18:16, Exodus 13:15, Luke 2:27) The firstlings of the oxen, sheep and goats were brought to the sanctuary within the first year after the 8th day of birth for sacrifice. (Num.18:17) The first born of an ass (an unclean animal) was to be redeemed with a lamb. (Exodus 13:12, 34:20). If the ass was not redeemed, it was put to death. Later, the law allowed that the ass could also be redeemed with money, according the priest’s evaluation, with a 5th part added. (Lev.27:27, Num.18:15)

As to the soil offering: The best of the first were sacrificed to Jehovah as the Lord of the Soil. (Exodus 23:19) They were given to the priests to present to Jehovah.

In addition to individual offerings, the congregation as a body annually offered, as a thanksgiving for the blessing of the harvest, a firstling sheaf at the Passover. These were given the priests for their use. A requirement being that only those who were ceremonially clean could eat thereof. The amount of these offerings was not specified by law, but was left to each individual’s discretion.

In like manner, redemption also meant the atoning work of Christ as the price paid for human redemption. Christ was divinely appointed to be man’s redeemer due to the love of the Son and The Father.

Mal 3:8 Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed Me. But you say, In what have we robbed You? In the tithe and the offering!

Mal 3:9 You are cursed with a curse; for you are robbing Me, the nation, all of it.

Mal 3:10 Bring all the tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house. And test Me now with this, says Jehovah of Hosts, to see if I will not open the windows of Heaven for you, and pour out a blessing for you, until there is not enough room.

Mal 3:11 And I will rebuke your devourer, and he shall not decay the fruit of your ground against you; nor shall your vine miscarry against you in the field, says Jehovah of Hosts.

Mal 3:12 And all nations shall call you blessed; for you shall be a delightful land, says Jehovah of Hosts.

This warning applies when a person or nation does not honor God with their tithe. God invites that person or people to test Him in how He will again bless them when they tithe. The fields will yield a good harvest to the extent that the land will have plenty.

Mal 4:2 But to you who fear My name, the Sun of Righteousness shall arise, and healing will be on His wings. And you shall go out and frisk like calves of the stall.

Mal 4:3 And you shall trample the wicked, for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day which I am preparing, says Jehovah of Hosts.

Mal 4:4 Remember the Law of Moses My servant, which I commanded to him in Horeb for all Israel, the statutes and judgments.

Mar_4:24 And He said to them, Take heed what you hear. With that measure which you measure, it shall be measured to you. And to you who hear, more shall be given.

Luk_6:38 Give, and it shall be given to you, good measure pressed down and shaken together and running over, they shall give into your bosom. For with the same measure that you measure, it shall be measured to you again.

Givers shall receive blessings in the same proportion as they give.

Rom_13:7 Therefore give to all their dues; to the one due tax, the tax; tribute to whom tribute is due, fear to whom fear is due, and honor to whom honor is due.

2Co_9:7 Each one, as he purposes in his heart, let him give; not of grief, or of necessity, for God loves a cheerful giver.

Act_20:35 I have shown you all things, that working in this way we ought to help the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.
