Confronting Giants by Being in God’s Will
We all have giants in our lives that can be sources of fear or faith building. This morning, when going to visit a good friend dying of cancer. I was prompted by God’s spirit to take a copy of the 23rd Psalm and read it to him. In obedience, I did as directed even though it would have been easy to simply be there in presence by his bedside. The small voice of God was unmistakable as the Holy Spirit touches our hearts. Following God’s leading can lead to great God encounters that touch us as our faith is built stronger with each occurrence.
After leaving the Hospice house the same small voice lead me to visit a church where I had never attended worship, but had designed their air conditioning. I reasoned that it would be interesting to see how well the new system worked as well as get a feeling as to the type of service occurs there. More was in store for me as God continued to orchestrate my day. The topic of the pastor’s message was confronting the giants in our lives. Only with God can we be assured that all will turn out in our best interest even though the answers may be difficult to face. Prostate cancer and other cancers was the primary example of the giant that many face today. That was the case for my friend also. The video that was presented was a short segment from a recent movie showing Daniel facing Saul, a giant in Daniel’s life. Daniel could have been afraid, but his protection was knowing that he was in God’s will. As he approached Saul, Daniel repeated, you guessed it, the 23rd Psalm. I seldom have heard this used as a sermon reference and tears welled in my eyes because this was a confirmation to me that I and the pastor were both in God’s will as we were led on a parallel path that was very unlikely without God being in control. God desires to determine our destiny for good when we are willing to listen.
There have been other times when faith has led to acts or impromptu prayer. One instance that come to mind was when an acquaintance and I knelt in prayer for her marriage. Her husband had not been home in two weeks and she was very concerned. As we rose from our knees and she gazed out the window facing the road, she was surprised to see the husband drive by on his way home. “Well, there he goes” she exclaimed, then left to meet him. God’s timing was perfect!
There is another post that involves a child’s prayer for a stray dog. It was rescued near the point of death and eventually reclaimed by its owners. God’s timing may seem late, but never ceases to amaze. Folks just need to slow down and listen to His small voice urging them to action.
Why do I share these thoughts with you? The Holy Spirit’s prompting again is a work. I pray that you have had similar happenings in you life. If not, then allow God’s will to overshadow reason in your daily walk. You will also find that God will confirm your actions and you will be blessed with similar God encounters. We are all going to need a closer walk with God in the coming days with the atmosphere of evil growing stronger about us. Trust in God is the best remedy for peace in the midst of the storm.
Have a great day with God!
