Consistent
Isn’t it aggravating and confusing when things change? Products in stores are relocated, friends move or disappear, life brings new challenges as we enter different phases, things wear out, rules and laws differ with time and location, we forget where we relocate things for quick reference or perceived needs. In fact, most things that men and women are involved with are constantly changing, sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse. We attempt to be creatures of habit, but things go awry and we have to relearn things continually. Not so with God! He says:
Psa_89:34 I will not break My covenant, nor change the thing that has gone out of My lips.
Mal_3:6 For I am Jehovah, I change not. Because of this you sons of Jacob are not destroyed.
God is forever the same, unchanging in His nature, His being, His desires and what He likes and dislikes. The universe He created continues on in the pattern He ordained until the end. Imagine, how confusing it would be if the North star and planets were no longer predictable in their positions in the sky? Navigation would become impossible. But, God desires that we are able to find our way. How impossible it would be to please God if His laws and promises were no longer stable? Without order, we could never know God’s desires and being in His will would become a game of chance. What if the environment about us was quickly changing each day? We would be in a constant state of fear and confusion. But, God has not given us a world to be feared and lost in. He is consistent and available for us to easily find. He wants to be found! We know His constant will and how to please Him and fellowship with Him. Life becomes ordered even within unpredictable earthly circumstances. We can always trust God and can call upon Him for help when we become lost, hurt or fearful. When God says He loves us, it is forever. Even when followers make mistakes and get temporarily lost. Jesus is indeed a solid rock for His church and all who follow Him. God is trustworthy and desires us to become like Him.
