Do you have any idea how amazing you are? Yes, I’m talking about your physical body. Not just the curvy exterior with eye-lashes wrinkles and hairs, but the real workings under the surface. Even though you, as an adult, are about 50% water, the remaining parts do amazing things. If you are able to read and understand this and can process, talk and write about it, you are a human made up of at least 100 trillion cells. Your brain has 100 billion nerve cells that allow memory and reasoning. You have a specific DNA pattern that is at least 5% different from any other animal. This is to say that there are 150 million DNA base pairs that are different. That is a lot of difference. Your heart pumps 100,000 times per day sending blood for healing, nourishment and waste removal to all parts of the body. The time to go to your toes and return to the heart takes about 10 seconds. There are 60,000 miles of blood vessels which could stretch around the earth 2.5 times. The heart pumps around 2.5 billion times in an average lifetime of 75 years. And, that is without an oil change or parts replacement. Let’s see anyone offer a warranty on any intricate thing with moving parts like this.

The liver has at least 200 functions such as filtering out toxins that would kill us in one day if not removed and battling infections. If part of the liver is donated to another person in need the liver can also regenerate itself. Pretty astounding, huh. The kidneys process about 50 gallons of blood a day to remove two quarts of waste. Go kidneys! You will take about 20,000 breaths in a day to provide oxygen to the blood for individual cell life through-out the body and expel waste carbon dioxide.

These are only a few of the miraculous functions of the body. But you are much more special than any other creation because you were created with a spirit that gives you life and longs to know your creator, God. Truly, when we are severely threatened and afraid, we long to cry out for help to more than just loved ones or friends, but to God who is capable of help anywhere, anytime. He is the one who knows us completely and can calm our worst fears. God is always available through prayer and you will never be put on hold or get a busy signal. However, God often answers with a time delay for perfect timing. It is this feature in humans that completely distinguishes us from all other animals. We alone can communicate with our creator and can have faith that He exists and answers prayer. How do I know this? I have never seen a monkey, or any other animal pray. We may act like monkeys at times but have never come from one. We did not come from monkeys.
