Planning Ahead
Exo_3:2 And the Angel of Jehovah appeared to him in a flame of fire, out of the midst of a thorn bush. And he looked. And behold! The thorn bush burned with fire! And the thorn bush was not burned up.
Heb 11:24 Having become great, Moses by faith refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter,
Heb 11:25 choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a time,
Heb 11:26 esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt, for he was looking to the reward.
After Moses had a burning bush experience, he was a changed man. He no longer considered the things of the earth as important as what God wanted in his life. He absolutely knew that God was real, alive and was interested in what he, Moses, did. Moses began to think about the future, especially his eternal reward in Heaven, more than he thought about the present. His only concern was that he felt inadequate for the task that God called him for. However, God assured him that he was not alone and would provide help as needed.
It was not a small thing that Moses had a new perspective on life. The past was gone and the present now represented only a stepping stone toward God’s approval and the promise of a Heavenly reward. We should strive for a similar focus, knowing that God is available to help those who answer His call. God will test us to build our faith, but will not leave us alone to complete any task He calls us to. Just as God prepared David to overcome Goliath, so also, He also stood with Moses in all his crises. Our main question should be, am I interested more in the now or my future for eternity?
