The Funeral Incident
There is a touching story of a young man who had died that Jesus raised from the dead. Here is the scripture story:
Luk 7:11 And it happened on the next day, He went into a city called Nain. And many of His disciples and a great crowd went with Him.
Luk 7:12 And drawing near the gate of the city, even behold,
one having died was being carried out, an only son of his mother, and she was a widow. And a considerable crowd of the city was with her.
Luk 7:13 And when the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her and said to her, Do not weep.
Luk 7:14 And He came and touched the bier. And the ones who bore him stood still. And He said, Young man, I say to you, Arise!
Luk 7:15 And the one who was dead sat up and began to speak. And He delivered him to his mother.
Luk 7:16 And fear came on all. And they glorified God, saying, A great prophet has risen up among us; and, God has visited His people.
This account comes after another story of a man with great faith being rewarded by Christ bringing his servant from death to life. This story , above, however offers no evidence of great faith. Instead, this miracle occurs simply because Jesus sees a widow in grief and has compassion on her. Jesus saw her weeping for her only son’s death and knowing her circumstances, He wanted to help her. He first spoke to her and encouraged her to stop weeping. The great crowed that followed must have thought this strange for they knew that the son was dead and the woman had cause to weep. So, their expectations must have also risen with hers. They watched closely what was about to happen. Jesus did not touch the son, but instead only touched the death bier. Then He spoke life into the body of the son saying “arise.” At Christ’s command , the son arose. Many of God’s miracles occur through Christ’s speaking change to happen. His words command all things because He created all things and His words bind all things together. (You might want to read the story about Laminin concerning how atoms are bound together.) Then, the son was returned to his mother and all the witnesses gave God glory. They did not know Christ as the son of god, so they only called Him a great prophet. But, the word went out of the miracle done before many. Since, we have the benefit of more knowledge, we can give God the glory through the work of His son. We can also know that God may also do great things for those with little faith simply because He has compassion on those in great need. Anyone can ask and may receive help. God is a source of hope for good gifts. Pray-believe-speak in faith-be patient-receive
