The Power of Language
Do you suppose that God cares what language we use to pray? I never really thought much about it before. I just trusted that the Holy Spirit, knowing our hearts, would intercede for us the things in the Father’s will. Thus, the entire Trinity are in agreement and the Father’s will is being followed.
Rom 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helps our infirmities. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
Then recently, a couple on the Sid Roth show was discussing a Swiss physicians invention to visually see sounds. Dr. Hans Jenny’s tonoscope vibrated a plate according to the sounds fed into it. The plate, in turn, vibrated sand or water placed on it into patterns. The flow of water off an inclined plate could even be stopped with some sounds. The couple commented that, according to Dr. Jenny, only one language today had an effect on the matter placed on the plate. Spoken Hebrew moved the matter placed on the machine. Their conclusion was that prayers spoken in Hebrew might have more of an effect than other languages. Interesting concept! After all, we are hoping that we are doing what is needed to pray effectively. But, also remember that Christ is the healer and He had compassion on the persons before Him even though they were imperfect. He sees the heart’s desire. The power of love is also of paramount importance in all prayers.

In defense of any language being effective: The Talmud states that it is permissible to pray in any language that you can understand; however, traditional Judaism has always stressed the importance of praying in Hebrew.

Well, what shall we make of all this? Speaking in Hebrew would honor the Jewish people and Christ more than other languages. And, when the New Jerusalem descends to earth it is likely that all its inhabitants will be speaking Hebrew.
Rev 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth. For the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. And the sea no longer is.
Rev 21:2 And I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down from God out of Heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her Husband.
Rev 21:3 And I heard a great voice out of Heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they will be His people, and God Himself will be with them and be their God.
Rev 21:4 And God will wipe away all tears from their eyes. And there will be no more death, nor mourning, nor crying out, nor will there be any more pain; for the first things passed away.
If we plan to be a part of that gathering for eternity, we might do well to begin our Hebrew language studies now. It might even be an encouragement for all to learn some basic Hebrew as a prayer language, especially for healing. It could not hurt. But, for the slow learners, as myself, I trust that when I receive the mind of Christ it will include language abilities.
Moreover, since god knows the heart without speech being necessary, those in Heaven may not have to speak at all. Jesus said that we are to be like him in Heaven. That would include the ability to know thoughts without any speech being required. Remember, how Jesus knew people’s thoughts.
Mat 9:2 And, behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy; Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee.
Mat 9:3 And, behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemeth.
Mat 9:4 And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts?
Mat 12:25 And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:
In addition, Dr. Jenny theorized that sound might have influenced evolution. That is true if Jesus spoke Hebrew when creating all things. That is another discussion.
You try and put the pieces together, for we see through a glass darkly now until we receive the mind of Christ.
1Co 13:12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall fully know even as I also am fully known.
