The Dislikes of God
It is good to know what an all-powerful God does not like!
God wants all to be well in His kingdom, but these things below cause problems.
Pro 6:12 A worthless person, a wicked man walks with a crooked mouth,
Pro 6:13 winking with his eyes, speaking with his feet, teaching with his fingers;
Pro 6:14 perversity is in his heart; he is always planning mischief; he causes fighting.
Pro 6:15 Therefore his calamity shall come suddenly; he is quickly broken, and there is no healing.
Pro 6:16 These six Jehovah hates; yea, seven are hateful to his soul:
Pro 6:17 a proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
Pro 6:18 a heart that plots wicked plans, feet hurrying to run to evil,
Pro 6:19 a false witness who speaks lies, and he who causes fighting among brothers.
Pro 6:20 My son, keep your father’s commandments, and do not forsake the law of your mother;
Pro 6:21 bind them upon your heart forever, tie them around your neck.
Pro 6:22 When you go, it shall lead you; when you sleep, it shall keep you; and when you awake, it shall talk with you.
Pro 6:23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life;
Deu 12:29 When Jehovah your God shall cut off the nations before you, where you go to possess them, and you take their place and dwell in their land,
Deu 12:30 take heed to yourself that you do not become snared by following them, after they are destroyed from before you, and that you do not ask about their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods, that I too may do likewise?
Deu 12:31 You shall not do so to Jehovah your God. For every abomination to Jehovah, which He hates, they have done to their gods; even their sons and their daughters they have burned in the fire to their gods.
God does cause wayward nations to be taken over when people do not honor God, even false gods. Bad things are bad even when done for any reason.
Deu 16:21 You shall not set up for yourself pillars of any trees near the altar of Jehovah your God which you shall make for yourself.
Deu 16:22 Nor shall you set up an image, which Jehovah your God hates.
God is a jealous god and does not like competition that honors any others, taking away from His glory. We are not to make anything or anyone as a god that we follow. Example: Money can become a god if it rules our lives instead of just being seen as a tool to accomplish what God desires and approves of.
Mal 2:14 Yet you say, Why? Because Jehovah has been witness between you and the wife of your youth, against whom you have dealt treacherously; yet she is your companion and your covenant wife.
Mal 2:15 And did He not make you one? Yet the vestige of the Spirit is in him. And what of the one? He was seeking a godly seed. Then guard your spirit, and do not act treacherously with the wife of your youth.
Mal 2:16 Jehovah, the God of Israel, says He hates sending away; and to cover with violence on his garment, says Jehovah of Hosts. Then guard your spirit, and do not act treacherously.
God takes marriage vows seriously. We should also. God wants marriage to be a safe haven and especially so for any vow made before Him.
Pro 11:1 False balances are hateful to Jehovah; but a just weight is His delight.
A just God always desires truth and honesty. False balances in trade or selling equate to lying and thievery.
Are you thinking that all these things are in the old testament and would not apply today? Remember that God does not change. What He dislikes remains the same. Jesus also taught about loving God and loving others. Love goes far beyond the minimums described above. Love gives blessings instead the neutrality of just obeying the laws. Love requires active participation in doing good works. Isn’t that what we would want for ourselves? May your day be filled with blessings.
